Non Emergency Procedure (e.g. Physical Abuse, Emotional Abuse, Neglect or Sexual Abuse)
Emergency Procedure (e.g. injuries requiring urgent treatment)
- The Child will need to be taken immediately to the nearest hospital with an Accident and Emergency department. Ensure that the medical and nursing staff are aware that the abuse could lead to an investigation.
- The Teacher must report the case to the Head or designated Teacher who should then contact the Designated Manager for Children Subject to a Child Protection Plan. Depending on the home address of the child in question, the Designated Manager for Children Subject to a Child Protection Plan will then contact the relevant social work office which will be responsible for the Initial Assessment.
- The Initial Assessment and any subsequent enquiries will be conducted in accordance with the principles, policies and procedures set out in Basic Procedures contained in Part 3 of this manual, except that Children’s Social Care Services will inform and consult with the relevant Police Force.
- Inform the parents of the child of the actions that have been taken. Normally the school will inform the parents but this will be agreed in discussion between the school and Children’s Social Care Services.
Non-Emergency Procedure (e.g. Physical Abuse, Emotional Abuse, Neglect or Sexual Abuse)

- The Initial Assessment and any subsequent enquiries will be conducted in accordance with the principles, policies and procedures set out in Basic Procedures contained in Part 3 of this manual, except that Children’s Social Care Services will inform and consult with the relevant Police Force.
